Knights of Columbus Council 5207 will sponsor the Tenth Annual Fighting Irish Spring Classic on Friday, 19 April, 2013 at Smokies Park to benefit the wide range pregnancy and adoption services provided by Catholic Charities of East Tennessee. This year's high school double header features Powell High School vs. Fulton High School in the first game and Knoxville Catholic against Gibbs High School in the nightcap. This event has grown in popularity and stature since its inception in 2004 and typically attracts over 2,000 spectators to what has become one of the most recognized high school athletic events in the Knoxville area.
The Spring Classic will begin at 5:00pm with opening activities that will feature the Fulton High School Navy ROTC Unit. After the Powell vs. Fulton game, a short concert will be performed by the Fulton High School Gospel Choir. The Knoxville Catholic vs. Gibbs game is expected to start at 7:45pm following opening activities that will include a performance by the St. Mary's School of Oak Ridge Crusader Ensemble.
Father Ragan Schriver, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of East Tennessee and Tom Gilmartin, Grand Knight of KoC Council 5207, welcome sports fans throughout the Knoxville area for what promises to be another great evening of high school baseball, family entertainment, and friendship among the communities of the four participating schools.
The Spring Classic, as it has from the beginning, will support much needed services to children and families throughout our community. As with all Catholic Charities programs, services supported by this event are available to anyone in need, regardless of religious affiliation or ability to pay.
Tickets for the Spring Classic are available from the participating schools, through Catholic Charities of East Tennessee, at http://10thfightingirishspringclassic.eventbrite.com, or at Smokies Park the day of the event.
