Healthy Hollywood: Try It On Tuesday – 21 Days On A Plant-Based Diet!

Posted:

Healthy Hollywood is going on a plant-based diet.

It takes 21 days to change a habit, so I am going to track how this way of eating affects how I feel over the next three weeks. The more I read about the benefits of eating clean, the more I feel it might be the way to go!

Celebrities like Lea Michele, Carrie Underwood and Russell Brand are all vegetarians and often cite their diet as a reason they look and feel amazing. For starters, numerous studies show that folks who move away from eating animal foods and toward a plant-based diet live nearly a decade of extra life. Plus, it is also hailed as the key to more energy, better-looking skin, weight loss and less disease.

I got inspired to really give a plant-based diet a go after meeting vegan expert Brendan Brazier who is also the founder of the online program Thrive Forward, which helps folks transform their health through a plant-based diet.

Brendan is a former professional Ironman triathlete and is dedicated to advising regular folks and elite athletes on how to find better health through good nutrition. Now he's helping me make the transition.

In 21 days, Brendan says my I will feel numerous benefits, including better sleep, fewer sugar cravings, increased energy and body fat loss.

"The benefits are wide: less digestive energy spent, which results in more energy, and not short-term, fleeting energy as one would get from a stimulant such as caffeine. You will have less inflammation, which directly translates into greater ease of movement. Plus, a plant-based diet helps reduce cortisol (stress hormone) which will make building/maintaining lean muscle easier."

To kick off my clean eating plan, I have started on Brendan's five-day food delivery service, Thrive Direct.

Vegan meals are provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hopefully, after my trial run, I will have a better sense of yummy nutrient-rich vegan meals to make. After all, a vegan diet can be varied and include lots of filling dishes made with legumes, veggies and grains.

"I look at switching as a process – a transition – so when you start, it's ok to not go 100 percent. It's OK to ease into it," suggests Brendan.

So, today is day one of my plant-based diet. Let the journey of health begin!
