"At 3:31 PM, Sunday, February 17 Deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of gun shots fired in the area of 1132 Fox Chase Drive in Heber Springs. Officers arrived on the scene at 3:58 PM and discovered the body of 37-year-old Melinda Gayle McCready on the front porch of the residence at 1132 Fox Chase," the statement read. "Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. McCready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated."

According to E! News, McCready's neighbors heard gunshots at her house and called police.

"She shot herself and the dog," a source claimed to the website.

McCready is survived by her two children – Zander, 6 (with ex Billy McKnight), and 10-month-old Zayne (who she had with her late boyfriend, David Wilson).

The troubled singer, who had previously attempted suicide in 2005 and 2008, was in mourning over the death of Wilson, who died just one month ago from a gunshot wound.

McCready claimed the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, but the death is still under investigation.

In an interview with NBC's Andrea Canning late last month, McCready tearfully recalled Wilson's recent passing.

"I have never gone through anything this painful," she told Canning in the interview at her home in Little Rock, Ark. "He didn't just touch my heart, he touched my soul. He was my soulmate."
