Carrie Fisher Honored For Raising Bipolar Awareness

Writer-actress Carrie Fisher has been honored for her candor in dealing with her bipolar disorder and for raising awareness about the condition.

Fisher received the Utah Film Center's Kim Peek Award for Disability in Media on Friday night in Salt Lake City.

The Deseret News reports film center founder Geralyn Dreyfous praised Fisher for sharing her bipolar disorder with a mix of humor, defiance and grace.

Fisher says people face a choice of being a victim of bipolar disorder or "taking it on and flying in the face of it."
