WTNZ FOX 43 has entered into an agreement that will provide an extra two and a half hours of local news programming daily. WBIR Channel 10 will be supplying local news content on FOX43 from 7-9:00 a.m. FOX43's current 10 o'clock news will be extended to create an hour long weekday evening news from 10-11:00 p.m. FOX43's weekend news will continue to air from 10:00-10:30 p.m.
"The new agreement with WBIR gives us more options; most importantly the opportunity to superserve the market with a local morning news show and expanded news at ten," said John Hayes, FOX 43 VP/General Manager. "Partnering with the largest news producer in the market creates a win-win for everyone, most importantly our viewers who have come to expect ‘Something for Everyone'."
The new morning news programming on FOX43 will be Knoxville's only local news programming in the 7-9:00 a.m. time block. The additional news content is scheduled to begin on FOX43 on May 2, 2011. As a result of the agreement, both FOX43 and WBIR will upgrade all newscasts to high-definition (HD).
